Through consistent and well-coordinated operations, we supported the operational reliability of the country’s waterway infrastructure. Close cooperation with Ukrainian ports played a crucial role in achieving these results, contributing directly to the sustained competitiveness of national terminals within the international maritime transport market.

Over the course of the project, more than 3.7 million cubic meters of soil were dredged and removed. The works were performed using a Bucket Ladder Dredger, supported by three self-propelled hopper barges, each with a holding capacity of 600 cubic meters.

The successful execution of this project highlights our company’s capability to deliver large-scale dredging solutions under demanding conditions, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.

EQUIPMENT

To efficiently restore and maintain safe access for maritime traffic, WHITEFORM CONTRACTS LTD deployed the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) HEGEMANN IV. This high-performance vessel enabled rapid mobilization and precise dredging operations under demanding marine conditions.

Throughout the project, more than 800,000 cubic meters of soil were dredged and removed, ensuring the required depths were re-established and maintained. The flexibility and efficiency of the TSHD allowed for continuous adaptation to the port’s operational needs, minimizing disruptions and supporting uninterrupted vessel movements.

The successful completion of this project highlights our expertise in delivering responsive dredging solutions in dynamic environments, as well as our ability to support port infrastructure resilience under adverse weather impacts.

EQUIPMENT

Phase I: Channel Deepening (May – November 2023)

During the initial phase, the primary objective was to deepen the approach channel from its original depth of approximately 11 meters to 14 meters. To achieve this, our company, through a strong partnership framework, mobilized the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) HEGEMANN IV and provided full operational management of the vessel.

Over the course of this stage, approximately 650,000 cubic meters of soil were dredged and transported, successfully achieving the required navigational depth and improving access for larger vessels.

Phase II: Channel and Inner Harbor Dredging (Spring 2024)

In the second stage, our team resumed operations to further enhance both the channel and the inner waters of the port. During this phase:

Around 900,000 cubic meters of soil were dredged and removed from the channel;
Approximately 500,000 cubic meters were dredged from the inner harbor area.

The works were carried out using a combination of:

A TSHD with a hopper capacity of approximately 2,300 m³,
A Backhoe Dredger (BHD) equipped with a Liebherr P995 Litronic (1600 kW) excavator,
An auxiliary tug with 1,870 kW power,
Two self-propelled hopper barges, each with a capacity of 600 m³.

This integrated fleet ensured high productivity and flexibility in both confined and open-water dredging conditions.

Phase III: Water Area Reconstruction (October 2025 — May 2026)

The third stage focused on the reconstruction of the terminal’s water area, carried out over a continuous six-month period. Despite persistent storm conditions affecting the operational environment, our experienced team ensured uninterrupted performance and adherence to project timelines.

The same high-performance fleet configuration was deployed, including:

A TSHD with a hopper capacity of approximately 2,300 m³,
A BHD with Liebherr P995 Litronic excavator,
Two self-propelled hopper barges (600 m³ each).

Through coordinated efforts with project partners, more than 1.35 million cubic meters of material were successfully removed during this phase.
